Those are the questions on everyone’s mind.

Before we get into the cures for diabetes or the treatment of diabetes naturally it is first necessary to take a look at the disease itself.

It all starts in your body’s pancreas. In a normal body, the pancreas naturally produces insulin. Insulin, in turn, is the “go-between” between your body’s cells and the sugar stored in your blood also known as glucose. Insulin allows the blood sugar to get into the cells and turn this glucose into energy. When there is a lack of insulin, or insulin is blocked, the glucose can not enter the cells and therefore builds up in the bloodstream causing diabetes mellitus. This condition if left untreated and the blood glucose levels become excessively high can cause long-term health complications.

Why should we hope to treat diabetes naturally?

There are three major types of diabetes Type 1, Type 2, and Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM).

Type 1 diabetes is the most severe; it was previously called insulin-dependent diabetes and is actually an auto-immune disease where the body’s immune system actually destroys the cells in the pancreas that produce insulin. This type is most often diagnosed in young adults and children. People suffering from Type 1 diabetes require external treatment of the disease through the use of insulin injections or implanted insulin pumps.

Type 2 diabetes

Type 2 diabetes is a far more common type of diabetes which is found most often in adults over 40 years old. It has been more commonly called non-insulin-dependent or late-onset diabetes. It accounts for 90% or more of cases. Type 2 happens when the body ceases to produce a large enough quantity of insulin that the body needs or when the body has become insulin resistant. This type of diabetes is often linked to genetic origins, but poor diet, being overweight, and high blood pressure play important roles in its onset.

Diabetes Treatment

The first choice of treatment for Type 2 is a restricted diet or a special diabetes treatment diet and natural treatment methods. A healthy exercise program is also indicated as a supplemental treatment. In more advanced cases, oral medications may need to be used if necessary. If left untreated injections of insulin may need to be prescribed.

The Third type of Diabetes

Gestational Diabetes Pregnant WomanThe third, less common form of diabetes is Gestational Diabetes Mellitus or GDM. This type of diabetes is an intolerance that the body develops for carbohydrates. It is found in about 5-8% of pregnant women. The risk factors that may contribute to GMD are a genetic history of diabetes in the family, pregnancy at a later age, or obesity. Even though the intolerance for carbohydrates most often returns to normal soon after giving birth, the mother has a higher risk of developing more severe diabetes as she gets older. The child is also at risk to develop diabetes or a glucose intolerance later in life. For this type of diabetes in pregnancy, the treatment is recommended to make dietary changes, exercise, and general self-care.

Although the treatments for all 3 major types of diabetes may differ, they all have things in common.

Common Diabetes Treatments

The first step is to try to treat diabetes through natural means. This includes limiting the intake of sugars, eating a healthy diet that does not contain complex carbohydrates or simple sugars, and a program of exercise. These are natural remedies for diabetes.

The second step, to take it further, is that several natural herbal remedies might be used to treat the disease. These are often referred to as homeopathic home remedies, herbal remedies for diabetes, or alternative diabetes medicine which this site will examine.

The third alternative is that there are a number of prescription drugs for diabetes that your doctor may suggest. Drugs to treat diabetes have been around for a long time, some are tried and true and some are new treatments for diabetes that we will also explore on this site.
